Joanne, Salon Owner

My interest in the arts, hair and health began at a young age.  Being with people, participating in a creative experience with them, exchanging ideas and developing solutions for their personal needs, be it hair or health, is what drives me.   I find it so very rewarding.  It is the interaction between myself and others and what we can create that gives me energy and inspiration.   The Loft Salon & Spa is a perfect setting for wonderful things to happen!

In my early 20’s I attended a Buddhist oriented university of the arts where my focus in Dance/Buddhist studies gave me a deeper understanding of art and design, as well as a greater sense of personal discipline and awareness.  This experience fed the creative skills necessary for my future in cosmetology. 

For 30 plus years I studied the art of herbal medicine and graduated from Dominion Herbal College as a Certified Clinical Herbalist.  My business, Chuckanut Herbals, was created and still keeps me connected to my love of herbal medicine. 

Eventually, a larger idea emerged.  If I could open up my own salon/spa I could integrate my varied disciplines.  I went to Cosmetology school to elevate my skills with hair and learn more about color and design.  I opened up The Loft Salon & Spa in 2003. 

 

The Loft combines my history in the arts, my commitment to people, their individuality, their personal sense of well-being, as well as their beauty and health.  I am dedicated to promoting environmental practices in my salon business which transfer to our wonderful Bellingham/world community.  The Loft Salon has been a nourishing and enriching business and will continue be a place for me to integrate my talents with the needs of my clientele.   It’s set within a beautiful flower shop and has a quaint and comfortable atmosphere where people can come to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy.  I am so grateful for all the people that I have met and will continue to meet in the coming years.
